Lower than expected retail prices for entry-level HD-DVD players exhibited at the recent 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the US may dash an expected early marketing advantage of Taiwan-developed FVD (forward versatile disc)players, according to Taiwanese makers of optical disc drives (ODDs). -
DVD players now more common in U.S. households than VCRs

After having been the symbol for home video entertainment for more than 40 years, the U.S. market penetration das dipped below the penetration of DVD players for the very first time. Nielsen Media Research reports that 81.2% of U.S. households owned a DVD player in Q3 of this year, while 79.2% are still using video recorders. -
102,000 battery packs for Disney DVD players recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Memcorp are recalling about 102,000 battery packs of portable DVD players sold under the Disney brand. There have been 17 reports of the batteries overheating with three reports of property damage, along with three reports of minor skin irritation.
